Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can pinched nerves in the back of my neck C3-C4, C4-C5, C5-C6 cause referred pain to the back of my left shoulder blade? Turning my neck to the left causes some pain; however I have knots under my shoulder blade that are becoming more painful, I have been over compensating on my left side due to the surgery I had 3 months ago on my right shoulder. I had a massage yesterday and was told that I have lots of stress and tension in my arms and fingers. I use a computer and phone for work. Can this repetitive motion cause neck and shoulder problems. Aside from cortisone injections and physical therapy, what are some other options?
Yes, excessive workload, wear and tear, work stress etc can cause similar kind of a pain in the neck and shoulder. Since you are also having pinched nerves in cervical spine, phrenic nerve pinching can also cause similar kind of pain. Phrenic nerve supplies shoulder joint.
So any pathology in cervical spine can cause referred pain in shoulder region. Along with physiotherapy, you can wear cervical collar, take painkiller like ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain relief.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Kaushal Bhavsar,
